WordPress is one of the most and easy to use website building platforms.
By uploading the WordPress software to your website or building a website on a free account like WordPress.com, the sky is the limit.
There are 2 options to use WordPress.
Build your own website on a domain that you own. Or build a website on a free to use domain that is owned by someone else.
1: its not yours:
This means that WordPress is pre installed and all you have to do is submit content.
There are many options available, and a simple Google search from http://www.google.com/ for something like “free website” will give you many options
2: It is yours:
This option means that you have to buy your domain name and find a web-host to put your website on the internet.
The things that were done for you in the first option, you have to do yourself now.
This website is build with option 2:
Reason for this is that I wanted my own website, and did not want to build it by the rules of someone else.
Here I can do what ever I want and publish whatever I want.
Building a website on free sites is good for if you just want to express yourself.
If, however you want to build a business or brand it is better to have your own domain.
My domain and business LbL Internet Marketing is hosted by Godaddy, a well known host for websites.
Free sites versus sites you own.
Free sites pro’s
- No cost
- Everything is set up for you
- No real knowledge needed
- Ready to use right away
Free sites cons
- Play it by their rules
- Can be deleted
- Advertising can be added
- Gone is gone
Sites you own pro’s
- You make the rules
- You decide
- You can add or delete
Sites you own cons
- Cost money
- Have to learn
Examples of free and paid sites I build are:
On this free domain I create webpages that link back to the websites I own.
Paid and owned by me: http://vanholland.weebly.com
Here is an example of an E-Commerce store I run, that sells non lethal self defense products.
